Shawnah is an accomplished teacher and choreographer who is well known in the dance industry. Shawnah has taught at many prestigious dance studios and brings with her over 20 years of experience. She specializes in tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, muscle conditioning, stretch and technique. Shawnah is a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) and has also completed her written papers in Anatomy, Dance History and Music. Shawnah also has her teaching stage certificates for the British Association of Teachers Dancing (B.A.T.D) and Canadian Dance Teachers Association (C.D.T.A). Shawnah has been recognized for her achievements throughout her teaching career and has been awarded top choreography awards and excellence awards in tap and ballet. Her students have achieved many high score awards, overall marks, most potential awards and scholarships at regional and national competitions. They have also won numerous titles including Miss Starpower, Miss Jr Starstep, Jr Miss Talent and Jr Miss Luv to Dance. Many of Shawnah's students have moved on to successful professional careers with performances in the Music Man, Hair Spray and So You Think You Can Dance. Shawnah has a passion for dance and loves being able to pass on her experience and talent to her students at JDI.
Theresa began dancing at the age of five and was eager to join the JDI team when it first opened. She was trained under Jessica Jardine in numerous styles of dance and with her natural abilities and dedication to dance, she soon began assisting and instructing competitive and recreational classes. This will be Theresa’s 14th season as a JDI instructor, teaching contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. She has produced many award-winning routines and is often recognized for her unique and innovative choreography. Theresa's group and solo/duet/trio routines have placed in overall awards at many competitions around the GTA. Her students have won awards such as "Face of Fever", “Mr. Junior Dancer of the Year” and have been nominated for a Stars of Stars online voting competition. Theresa's students have also been recognized with "Most Potential" awards as well as receiving scholarships for workshops worldwide to work with the industries finest. Some of Theresa’s routines have been awarded top marks, qualifying and placing in dance offs and finals of local competitions. Theresa continues to share her love for dance and is looking forward to another successful season with the JDI family.
Jen Tughan started dancing at the age of three and trained in jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip hop. She competed for many years winning numerous awards in Canada and the US. She has performed and competed in venues such as The Rogers Centre and CNE and had the opportunity to be involved as a dancer in the film industry. After high school, Jen lived in the United States for two years where she continued her dance training and was also training as a student athlete on scholarship. Here she developed a strong knowledge and practice of intense physical training, which she continues to develop today, and is working towards her fitness certification. Jen began teaching and assisting at the age of 16, and spent twelve years teaching both competitive and recreational classes for JDI. During this time, she has been recognized for her choreography and both her group and solo routines have won numerous special and overall awards. Jen is thrilled to be part of the JDI family to continue to share her love of dance with children of all ages and abilities.
Connie Rodrigues started dancing at the age of three and has experience in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and modern. She began her training at Maxine School Of Dance where she competed in many competitions and won numerous awards across Canada and the United States. After high school, Connie enrolled in the Dance Teachers Training Program at the Oakville School of Dancing where she completed her Royal Academy of Dance, Anatomy, Music & Dance History written certificates. Connie’s other qualifications include, Full Membership with the CDTA (Canadian Dance Teachers Association – stage branch), Associate Membership with BATD (British Association of Teachers of Dancing – stage branch), and a Teaching Membership with the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance). For the past sixteen years, Connie has been teaching ballet, tap and jazz (to students of all age levels) in Brampton, Bolton and Brantford where she has earned the respect of her fellow teachers, students and parents. Her dedication and enthusiasm for dance has been proven through the many accomplishments of her students. Connie’s students have also enrolled annually in the Royal Academy of Dancing Ballet examinations and Canadian Dance Teachers Association Tap examinations and have enjoyed great success. Connie is looking forward to another exciting year of teaching and is delighted to be part of the JDI family!
Jessica has always had a passion for dance and has been involved in the dance industry for over twenty years. Trained in jazz, tap, ballet, acro, hip-hop, lyrical and musical theatre, she has competed since the age of six winning numerous overall awards and scholarships across Canada and the United States. She studied the R.A.D. and B.A.T.D. where she completed the grades and major exams and is a fully certified BATD member (stage branch). Jessica has been teaching dance in the Brampton area since the early age of sixteen and after being recognized for her talents as an instructor, she decided to open JDI in 2002. Over the years Jessica’s students have achieved major success winning countless overall awards, top marks, judges choice awards and scholarships to work with the industries leading choreographers all over the world. Jessica has also been recognized with numerous top choreography awards for her work and her students have also won titles such as "The Face of Fever",“Miss Teen Dancer of the Year”, “Mister Senior Dancer of the Year” and “Miss Accomplished Dancer of the Year”. Many of her students have also gone on to dance at the National Ballet of Canada and with the Toronto Argonauts and the Toronto Raptors. Her students have also performed in various cruise lines and television shows and have gone on to be dance instructors themselves. To add to her credentials, Jessica is also an adjudicator, which allows her to pass on her knowledge and experience to many other students in the dance industry. Her goal is to continue to achieve excellence in an environment that is positive and energetic with the students at JDI.
Tenysha has been dancing since the age of 6 and has trained in various styles including Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Contemporary and more. Her love for dance has pushed her to pursue opportunities to perform all throughout Canada and the U.S. She most recently has had the honor of performing at Toronto's original Choreographers Ball. Tenysha has engaged in professional cheerleading and was part of Lady A's dance team for the Brampton A's inaugural season in the NBL. She is also a former cheerleader for the Toronto Argonauts Football club. She has had the opportunity to represent Toronto on and off the field and has performed with the likes of Kardinal Official, Karl Wolf, Dru and Maestro Fresh Wes. She has also appeared in music videos, and has taken a hand in choreographing for a local Toronto artist. As a dancer she was often recognized for her "Amazing Stage Presence" and was deemed to have the "Total Package". Tenysha was presented with scholarships to work with the industries top choreographers and has been awarded Highest Overall Scores as well as Most Potential Dancer awards. Tenysha has always had an appreciation for the art of dance and a passion for performing. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and love for dance with her students as an instructor at JDI.
